	This thesis presents a design and fabrication framework that enables in-line structural testing during assembly of structures made from reclaimed timber, allowing live design modifications in response to material uncertainty. 
The research addresses the variability in the mechanical properties and geometry of reclaimed timber. As a result of this integrated loop, actual structural behavior can be measured and used to inform design. This allows for smart material use and higher certainty of structural performance.




  
  





	
	The development of two in-line testing and fabrication methods demonstrates how a robust computational workflow can be implemented both at the prefabricated module level and to enable continuous timber floor slabs in on-site construction. 
Using a modular steel frame, pressure sensors, an OptiTrack sensing system, and pneumatic loading, we were able to test the prefabrication method while making design and material quantity adjustments during fabrication. 
In collaboration with the Autodesk Technology Center in Boston, an alternative method for on-site assembly was also simulated and is currently undergoing testing.

	The IntCDC Building is a climate-neutral research facility and permanent demonstrator for interdisciplinary codesign within the IntCDC Cluster of Excellence, integrating office space with indoor and outdoor laboratories for robotic fabrication and cyber-physical construction. Its predominant feature is a robotically fabricated, segmented timber shell roof, spanning 30 m and covering 3,500 m².

	Participated in the production and platform integration of a segmented timber shell roof. This included machine health monitoring and the implementation of six end effectors for the assembly and machining of 1,090 individual cassettes. 
Digital and computational methods supported the design-to-fabrication workflow, including task-based path planning for the KUKA 420.

	The aim of this project is to explore the development of a design and production framework for digitally upcycled reclaimed timber in multi-storey, load-bearing systems with clear spans exceeding 6 metres, embracing the inherent variability of the material as a design driver. The teams investigation focuses on strategies to overcome the challenge of material unreliability and enhance future reusability while staying aligned with the realities and needs of the built environment. In parallel, the team explored how the available material stock, and the inherent agency of the timber itself, both inform and constrain the design process.

	The primary contribution was the development of a &#38;nbsp;design-to-fabrication workflow capable of working with variable material stock. Material was characterised and allocated within a parametric digital model, which was then translated into a fabrication model. 
The resulting system is currently in the process of being fabricated.
